Mold and water damage share different similarities, making it a challenge to identify what type of problem you’re working with in your home. Water damage and mold both happen where water leaks, but there are different signs you can use to help distinguish between the two.
Signs of Water Damage
If your home has a small, clean water leak, that area will become water-damaged over time. But if you can’t see the leak itself, it can be hard to know if you have one. Look for signs like warped wood flooring, vinyl flooring, or wallpaper or paint that is bubbling or peeling. Beyond that, you can look for yellow, brown, or copper-colored stains that appear around the source of that water leak.
